DELHI: The authorities on Thursday approved an spending of nearly Rs 733 crore
under different strategies for spices, tea and java plantation during the 11th
Plan. The Cabinet Committee on
Economic Personal Business approved execution of a strategy for development support for
coffee by the Coffee Board with an spending of Rs 310 crore, which will enable
coffee agriculturists to entree subsidy for re-plantation, upgradation and pollution
abatement in the North Eastern part and new countries like Andhra Pradesh and
Orissa. The CCEA also approved
Export Development and Promotion of Spices Scheme, involving an spending of Rs
192.69 crore. It will provide
apart from other assistance, fiscal aid to 150 exporters in the
general country and 10 exporters in North-East to bring forth particular spice merchandises of
international criteria and quality would be provided, an functionary said. The strategy envisages promoting
value added spice processing or packaging and quality control installations to
improve the quality of spices. For the tea sector, the CCEA
approved Rs 230-crore Tea Quality Upgradation and Merchandise Diversification
Scheme, which is expected to supply aid to tea plantation owners for upgradation
and value improver in their units.
